Honey Humidity Calculator

Inserisci i dati della tua misurazione

Inserisci indice e temperatura per calcolare l’umidità del miele.

This application allows you to estimate the moisture content of honey starting from the refractive index reading and the measurement temperature. It is designed for beekeepers, laboratory technicians, and quality controllers who desire an immediate and accurate assessment according to the standard tables.

How it works

By entering the refractive index measured with the refractometer (generally between 1.5040 and 1.5230) and the sample temperature in °C, the app automatically calculates:

  • The moisture estimated at 20°C (base value from the table);
  • The correction due to the actual temperature of the sample;
  • The final corrected moisture of the honey.

The calculation is based on the modified Wedmore tables, commonly used in honey analysis, and considers a variation of about 0.06% moisture for each degree of difference from 20°C.

Thermal reference table

The app displays a correction table showing how temperature affects the apparent moisture of honey.
For example:

  • At 15°C the reading is slightly lower, and it is necessary to add about +0.30%;
  • At 25°C, about –0.30% should be subtracted;
  • Variations are almost linear between 15 and 30°C.

Interpretation of results

The final result is accompanied by a qualitative assessment:

  • ≤ 18% → Optimal moisture, mature honey that is stable over time;
  • 18.1 – 20% → Acceptable but sensitive to the environment; store in controlled conditions;
  • > 20% → Risk of fermentation, dehumidification intervention or further maturation is necessary.

Additional tools

The results are displayed in a dedicated container with the option for quick copy to clipboard, useful for filling out analysis sheets or traceability documents.

Warnings

The proposed calculation is for informational purposes and does not replace official laboratory analyses. The tables used provide an indicative estimate that may vary slightly depending on the type of refractometer and operational conditions.
