The Specific Heat and Thermal Capacity Calculator allows users to quickly determine the specific heat (c) and thermal capacity (C) of a substance, using the amount of heat exchanged, mass, and temperature change. These are two fundamental thermodynamic quantities that help understand how a substance reacts to temperature changes.

The app is perfect for students, teachers, and enthusiasts of physics and chemistry who wish to analyze the thermal properties of materials in a simple and intuitive way. It can be used for laboratory experiments, school exercises, or experimental analyses of heat exchange.

How it works

The user must enter:

  • Heat exchanged (Q) – in joules (J), representing the thermal energy absorbed or released;
  • Mass (m) – in grams (g), the amount of substance involved;
  • Temperature change (ΔT) – in degrees Celsius (°C) or kelvin (K).

The calculator applies the formulas:

c = Q / (m × ΔT) C = Q / ΔT

The specific heat (c) measures the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of 1 gram of a substance by 1°C, while the thermal capacity (C) represents the energy needed to increase the temperature of the entire body considered by 1°C.

Interpreting the results

  • Low values of c → materials that heat up easily (metals like copper, iron);
  • Medium values of c → common substances like glass or stone;
  • High values of c → substances with a high capacity to store heat (e.g. water).

Why it’s useful

Calculating specific heat and thermal capacity is essential for:

  • Analyzing heating or cooling processes in physics and chemistry;
  • Determining the efficiency of materials in heat transfers;
  • Predicting thermal variations in experiments or technical applications;
  • Studying thermal properties in environmental, energy, or engineering contexts.

The result is expressed in standard units (J/(g·°C) and J/°C) and provides a clear picture of the thermal behavior of the material examined.

Additional features

The results are displayed in a dedicated container, clear and readable, and can be easily copied to the clipboard for use in reports or lab sheets. The intuitive interface allows for the quick application of classic thermodynamics principles without complex tools.
